Role: Backend Developer – Ruby on Rails (F/M/X) — Remote

Talents2Germany is placing a Backend Ruby on Rails Developer with one of our clients — a B2B technology company in the German-speaking market.
The company builds a digital platform that helps businesses and independent professionals create, manage, and scale digital offerings. The product environment is fast-moving, user-focused, and shaped by a strong emphasis on scalable systems, clean execution, and continuous improvement.

This role is suited for someone who enjoys building reliable backend systems, contributing to architecture decisions, and working closely with product and engineering stakeholders in a modern remote environment.

This is a long-term remote engagement working directly with the technical leadership. The developer will be a core contributor to an actively used platform with real customers and real scale. All communication is in English.

Role Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong Ruby on Rails experience to join a fully remote product engineering team. In this role, you would build and improve scalable backend systems, contribute to architecture and technical decisions, and help maintain high standards for code quality, performance, and reliability. The position suits someone who combines solid backend expertise with pragmatic problem-solving, strong ownership, and the ability to work effectively in a distributed team environment. Familiarity with modern development workflows, scalable applications, and AI-related product features would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build, improve, and maintain backend systems in Ruby on Rails
• Develop scalable backend components for web applications
• Contribute to technical solution design, architecture discussions, and process improvements
• Work closely with developers and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical solutions
• Improve application performance, reliability, and security
• Support and enhance existing systems through maintenance, refactoring, and feature development
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle
• Help evaluate and adopt relevant technologies where they add clear value
• Support the integration of AI-powered product capabilities where relevant

Must-Have Requirements:

Technical Skills

• 4+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails
• Strong backend engineering skills and solid understanding of object-oriented programming
• Experience with scalable application design
• Experience contributing to architecture decisions and improving development processes
• Strong command of Git and modern development workflows
• Clear focus on clean, maintainable code

Work Style & Communication

• English: fluent spoken and written — mandatory for all team communication
• Experience working in agile development environments
• Self-organised: works independently and delivers without hand-holding
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proactive communicator: raises ambiguities early, does not guess silently

Highly Desirable:

• Experience with test-driven development
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions
• Experience with PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with high-load systems
• Background in FinTech, e-commerce, or similar digital product environments
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI workflow tools, LLMs, vector databases, or AI agents
